You need to have a blog. If you are not blogging you are missing one of the most crucial
channels of inbound marketing and the easiest method to drive leads and increase your site's SEO. Businesses that blog drive 55% more traffic to their site than businesses that don't blog [source: HubSpot]. Here is a link to our Blogging for SEO Checklist.
Tip 1) Obviously from the statement above - Start Blogging today if you aren't already. It is very easy to set up a blog via sites like Wordpress or Blogger.com at little or no cost. I don't know about you, but we want the additional 55% in traffic to hit our site. Blogging is one of the most crucial channels to a successful inbound marketing strategy.
Tip 2) Pick a topic that you have a passion for and you are educated on. We don't write about plumbing because we don't know anything about it. Heck, I can't even get a bathroom sink unclogged without calling a plumber. The topic you pick to blog about obviously needs to consist of content that your customers will find useful and can implement to better their business or everyday life.
Tip 3) Be consistent. You need to feed your blog on a regular schedule just as you would a baby. Getting off your babies feeding schedule makes them hungry and cranky. Your subscribers will feel the same way as they are searching for your content. The more you feed your blog the more opportunities you have to generate leads for your business.
Tip 4) Always include a Call to Action at the bottom of each blog post to generate leads. You also want to have 1-3 CTA's in the sidebar of your blog. The CTA will need to be relevant to the topic of your blog post and should be linked to well designed landing pages that convert. Your CTA must have a compelling offer, but it doesn't always need to be a discount. I would love to see a CTA that will deliver a video on "How to Unclog a Bathroom Sink". This type of video is what I am looking for as a potential lead to educate myself on how to unclog my sink and will create authority for the plumbing company by providing me with this type of a resource.
Tip 5) Once you generate a lead, nurture them! If you do not have a lead nurturing module in your CMS then follow up with an email or a phone call to nurture your new lead. Set up a schedule based on the buying perona's of your client and email them based on their buying cycle.
Following these simple steps will help you generate leads from your blog and also improve your SEO. The more you blog the more lead opportunities you will create. This is why we blog everyday and have Call to Action's at the bottom of our blog posts. If you think blogging everyday is difficult then download our Free Content Calendar to make the process much easier.
