    5. Images

    Search Engine Optimization

The use of images on a web page will enhance the user experience when reading your content and allow you to paint of picture of the story you are trying to tell regarding your topic. When you insert images onto your website, you will want to follow these guidelines:

Images are great to help communicate your message, but don't excessively use them as the page load time will take longer. Long load times will have a negative impact with search engine optimization and the user experience.

Search engines are not able to "read" images; they are only   able to read text.  ALT text is an HTML attribute you can add to an image file to allow search engines to replace the image with the associated text.

For increased optimization use keywords in your file name for the image.  This will help you attract relevant traffic from image searches (use a dash (-) to separate your keywords in the file name).

    6. Domain Registration

Most people don't give any thought to their domain expiration date because they have an auto renewal notification set up when the renewal time approaches.  Search engines think differently and favor sites that are registered for a longer period of time. Longer domain registrations indicate a commitment to the site and mean the site has a lower chance of being used for spam. Extending your website registration for multiple years will give you an SEO boost and comes with a minimal cost of $9.00 - $15.00 per year.

    7. MOZ Rank

MOZ Rank is a link popularity score that reflects the importance of your page on the internet. Th higher your MOZ rank the more authority your site has. MOZ rank scales from 1-10 with 10 being the highest grade and factors in both on-page and off-page SEO.  A big factor in improving your sites authority and MOZ rank are the quantity and the quality of organic links to your site.  Click here for a more technichal description of Moz rank.

    8. URL's

The URL of a web page is its address. Improving your URL structure once your site is designed is one of the more difficult aspects of on-page optimization. There are different methods used to fix URL structure which depend on the ability of your content management system or your website programming framework. If you do not possess the skill set of a well versed coder than we would recommend that you enlist one for this task as the results will greatly increase your SEO.

Try to avoid the sue of deeply rooted URLs like: http://www.mywebsite.com/aboutus/corporate/conact/email. Deeply rooted will generate less search engine optimization, but can be fixed by improving your overall site design.

301 redirects: A 301 redirect is used to forward an old URL to a new one when a change is made to a page or your entire website URL changes. A common over site is not applying a 301 redirect between acmeboots.com and www.acmeboots.com which creates a problem from an SEO standpoint, because search engine will give credit to each site individually and not collectively.

Keywords should play a role in your static URL strategy specifically for your interior pages. Example: http://www.mymarkeingsite.com/marketing-resources/ is a good example that captures "marketing" and "resources" as keywords.  Don't use more than three keywords in each URL and definitely don't stuff your web pages with keywords as your visitors will not be able to read the content and will cause a negative effect with search engines.
